Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs
Fishing & Aquatic Education Training
November 22 - 24 at the Freeman House
Island Beach State Park, NJ

Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) is a statewide youth fishing education program sponsored by NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. HOFNOD is a great way to introduce youth to fishing, learning about their local water and other natural resources while supporting positive outdoor recreation activities and life skills.

This 2-day training is for adult staff and volunteers of youth-centered community and/or faith-based organizations looking to offer an ongoing or year-round youth fishing, conservation and aquatic education program. HOFNOD is flexible enough to be tailored to fit most organizations.

Participants of this training will be responsible for delivering the program to youth from beginning to end. Organizations that participate in the program are eligible to receive: additional professional development in conservation education and angling skills, financial and in-kind support for program materials and supplies including subsidized educational field trips. Supplemental training can be requested for content like fly tying, fly fishing and Discover SCUBA Diving.

To register, complete the online form at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/pdf/2013/hofnod_regform11-13.pdf (PDF), print, and mail. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $40 per person to help offset costs.

The registration deadline is November 15, 2013. Space is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. Once your registration application and fee are received, a confirmation packet will be e-mailed to you detailing what to bring and to reserve your spot. The course fee includes: 2 days of instruction, teaching materials and equipment, 2 nights lodging, and 5 meals (Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch). Please submit payment with your registration. This is a rain or shine training.

Please plan to arrive Friday evening between 6-8 pm. There will be a meet-n-greet Friday evening at 8:00 pm.

Course Start: Saturday, November 23rd at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Indoor/outdoor instruction.
Course End: Approximately 4 PM on Sunday.

If you have questions contact Liz Jackson, program coordinator, at (908) 637-4125 x122 or by e-mail at Liz.Jackson@dep.state.nj.us .
