Fishing Meat with Bucktails

Looking for some input guys I feel I have gotten pretty good with bucktailing fluke, using what I guess would be the standard bucktail rig. Bucktail on the bottom with a stinger hook, a dropper loop tied about 12 inches above the bucktail with a teaser. As far as Bait goes it's been Gulp. Here's my question If you use a belly strip or Searobin strip do you hook it on to the teaser or the bucktail  I have tried putting it on the bucktail but the strip seems to get wrapped up do to the jigging motion. Anyone else trying what I'm trying

On the Monger we use,

A 36 to 40" piece of mono...tie a big dropper loop, about 4 to 5 inches in size at the half way point in the leader. ( John the Mate has 25 of these pre-tied and ready to go )

On the end we tie a 4" loop either with a double surgeons or perfection loop, your choice.

We use a small swivel to attach the mono to the braid...

We  then slip the loop through the eye of the hook on the bucktail and over the bucktail. This is nice if you need to change weight on the bucktail without re-tying

Ad 4/0 hook of your choice on the dropper.

We then add a 4" gulp grub onto the hook of the bucktail (sometimes with meat sometimes without )

On the stinger we also put a 4" gulp grub with or without meat...

and that's it.

last Friday the fish crushed the pink grubs with or without meat....I think without meat was a little better I noticed, I caught most of my fish on the stinger with pink grub without meat...every day can be different...

When I fish for fluke Skip I always pay attention to the fish coming over the rail...one guy on the boat started hitting fish after fish and he had pink....I switched to pink and started landing fish...

I have noticed that the meat on the bucktail can wrap on the hook but have also noticed that if you use a stinger hook on the bucktail and hook the meat in both hooks it seems to wrap up a lot less....

Why not both hooks ? Hook it to the bucktail with the tail of the strip just on the stinger tip .

That's what I do when using the stinger, meat goes on both hooks...we use 6 to 8" strip baits...

trimming up the strip nice is key to whatever you do- it's gotta flutter, any twistin' is gonna send them flatties packin'

nice detail Kenny; I've been using the large loop to the bucktail for awhile now, saves time  for sure.

A couple additional, important points I'd like to add..

When I'm baited up and ready to go in the water I always place the rig in the water a few feet down and see how the baits and rig looks...If anything looks wrong as wb mentioned ( twisting or as I call it " the helicopter " ) Pull it out, adjust and check again before sending it down.

Twisting or helicopter = no fish
Nice fluttering baits   = Fish

Also I like to send it down slowly....you can get things all twisted up if the rig goes down like a rock as well....looked good on top and is a mess by the time it gets to the bottom...

I have used spot fillets for fluke that has been very prodductive.  I cut one  side and cut through the bone at the end and leave the tail on, has a very nice presentation.  I catch a lot of spot but don't have a bait pen so I just freeze them and use them for cut bait.
