Fort Lauderdale Fishing Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Tony Silvestri and his son Andrew from Tulsa, OK along with friend, Rodger Goldman and his children, Philip and Meredith, from Ponte Vedra, FL chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL.  The children on board ranged from ages 5-9.  Winds were out of the northeast at 15 mph, seas running 4-5 ft. with clear skies.

This was Rogers first time fishing with the Happy Day Today but his 13th time in trying to catch a Sailfish – Hopefully 13 will be his lucky number aboard the Happy Day Today!!!

We stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait.  Fifteen minutes from the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL.  I put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one live Goggle Eye from the outrigger.  Our first fish came from the outrigger which was an 11 lb. Kingfish.  As we sat patiently waiting for his arrival, water exploded on the left long.  Sailfish in the air immediately!!!!  But, the hook pulled.  Well, Rodger, don’t loose hope – with patience we will get another Sailfish.

A black shadow appeared on the right short – dorsal and bill out of the water 50 ft. from the boat as he frantically chased the live Goggle Eye until it was captured.  The fight was on!!!  Rodger hopped into the fighting chair – now it was up to Rodger to fulfill his dream, but not alone as Philip and Meredith, each took turn assisting their dad in bringing in the Sailfish.  Twenty-five minutes later Mark, our mate, brought the Sailfish in measuring 78” for picture taking and release.   We reset our kites again and this time it was Tony’s turn.  With five minutes left on the trip, another black shadow made an appearance grabbing the left short bait – off he went.  Another fantastic show was put on by the Atlantic Sailfish as the sun glittered down on his neon body.  Twenty-five minutes later Tony brought his 89” Sailfish to the boat for picture taking.

The anglers retired along with their children into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  Mark filet the Mahi Mahi’s which will be served for dinner tonight.
