AC BOAT SHOW KICKS OFF TODAYSaturday Seminar Line-Up Includes Striped Bass Forum The Atlantic City Boat Show gets underway today at the Atlantic City Convention Center and rolls on through Sunday with a unique collection of 'how to' fishing seminars scheduled each day by the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) targeted specifically to New Jersey saltwater fishing opportunities.
A special striped bass seminar line-up on Saturday, February 8th will feature world record holder Greg Myerson and his 81.88-pound striped bass mount which will be displayed on Saturday and Sunday. Myerson caught the new world record in Connecticut in 2011, breaking the previous 29-year record held by Al McReynolds, a 78-1/2-pound striper caught in the Atlantic City surf back on September 21, 1982. That fish still stands as a New Jersey state record striped bass.
Following the February 8th seminar line-up which also features Capt. Steve Bent, Tony Arcabascio, Gary Caputi and acclaimed underwater videographer Mike Laptew, a special forum on striped bass will be held at the Atlantic City Boat Show seminar area beginning at 4 p.m. A special presentation by Russ Allen, Supervising Biologist with the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife (Marine Fisheries) will kick off public discussion about New Jersey's number one gamefish - the striped bass - and what actions may be on the horizon from a management perspective.
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) has met this week in Alexandria, VA - in addition to their decision to approve a regional management approach to summer flounder which will result in a four fish, 18-inch bag limit and 128-day season in New Jersey for 2014, ASMFC has also reviewed a series striped bass management measures - this special 'Striped Bass' forum at the Atlantic City Boat Show on Saturday, February 8th offers members of the fishing and boating public a unique first glimpse at what fisheries managers had discussed in Virginia.
Fishing seminars kick off at 3 p.m. today with a spotlight on striped bass, followed by a discussion on South Jersey doormats at 5 p.m. See the full line-up of seminars at
