This weekend will be an escape from the Arctic and water conditions will not be so bad! Precipitation is possible both days, with most areas seeing rain chances, less than 50% right now and the possibility of maybe mix precipitation or sleet, especially across the north. For the most part it will be a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will get into the 40’s, maybe even some 50’s along the coast. Lows will be in the 30’s Saturday, but drop back down into the 20’s for Sunday. Overall, the Polar and Arctic airmasses wil stay north of the border or at least north of our state border for the foreseeable future. This will allow thawing and melting of the snowpack, grounds will be wet as well as roads and surfaces. This could refreeze Saturday Nights in some parts and definitely Sunday Night. Winds will be calm with Sunday the highest with some possible gusts near 20 mph, but nothing sustained. Water conditions look good with some possible gusty winds and SCA’s on Sunday across Southern and Midshore to Offshore waters. Nothing near the conditions of last weekend. Unfortunately, many of the rivers and bays are frozen over. This weekend will break it up some, but not much. Even the Delaware Bay and River are experiencing ice pack issues, leading to ice jams again! Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok with Sunday having some gustier winds. Waves will be generally 1-3 feet. Water temperatures are steady with rivers and bays in the low 30’s, surf temperatures in the low to mid 30’s, inshore ocean waters in the upper 30’s to low 40’s and offshore waters in the upper 40’s. The days are slowly getting longer and the UV Index is slowly starting to increase with Low to Moderate this weekend at 1-3/15.
High pressure will continue to move offshore tonight with a warming trend through the weekend. A cold front will move through the region on Sunday. A wave of low pressure may develop on the front to the south of the area on Monday. High pressure will then build back into the region for Monday Night into early Tuesday. Then, an area of low pressure will develop along the Gulf of Mexico Coast and move northeastward toward the Mid-Atlantic States on Wednesday.
Next week looks to be mainly dry. I am watching for a possible system on Tuesday Night into Wednesday that could bring precipitation and end up a coastal low. Then another possible system next weekend. Please don’t buy into the hype of a blizzard or 30+ inches of snow! Is it possible, sure, but it is also just as unlikely as well. The models are hinting at a system both of these days next week, but without a solid block of cold air over the area, this could be rain, mix or snow or all of the above. It is too early to pinpoint any of this right now. The talk you are seeing on the internet was of a model, that is not even used for forecasting (it was the European Control, not operational) and was the total accumulation over 10+ days, showing 30+ inches of snow. Of course, within 12 hours that has already changed and is just not reliable that far out. Temperatures looks to remain average in the 30’s with 20’s to 30’s at night. Water, surf and beach conditions will vary throughout the week with some passing systems. Obviously, if a coastal low develops, conditions could deteriorate even more.
