Another Winter Week, with an unsettled weather pattern, potential Winter Storm/Nor’Easter, very cold air and Hazardous Water Conditions from midweek through the weekend.  Monday will continue to be sunny and then clear, but cold. Tuesday will be a repeat of Monday with sunny and clear skies, temperatures mostly below freezing, and very cold overnight lows from negative temperatures to only mid teens. Wednesday will see cloudier skies building in throughout the day, with chances of snow showers during the day. Wednesday Night will bring the start of a potential Winter Storm/Nor’Easter. This will bring mainly snow to the state with coastal effects as well. The models and forecasts are leaning towards a strong storm to continue through Thursday Night before clearing out. This will be the storm to watch this week, with the potential for significant snowfall, again. Forecasts will be more solid by tomorrow for track, intensity, and snowfall totals. This storm could definitely bring coastal flooding and erosion as well. Updates to come!  Temperatures from midweek into the weekend will be more along average to slightly above average with overnight lows along the same. With these milder temperatures, with precipitation in the forecast, many areas could see a variety of wintry precip to rain. Gusty winds will also start Wednesday and persist likely into the weekend.  Friday will clear out and be the mildest day this week with the potential for some snow showers Friday Night.  Water conditions will be good through Wednesday Night when conditions will begin to deteriorate.  By Thursday, conditions will be Hazardous with Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories for winds to 30-40 knots and seas 10 feet. I expect, if the storm tracks along the coast, these forecasts will increase over the next 24-36 hours.  Surf and beach conditions will be good through Wednesday Night before becoming Cautious to Hazardous through the weekend with surf to 10+ feet. Water temperatures are a couple of degrees colder with inshore waters in the 30’s and offshore waters in the mid to upper 40’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 1-3/15.

Strong cold high pressure in the Upper Midwest will move to New England Wednesday. Low pressure along the Coastal Carolinas Wednesday Evening will pass to the east of the Delaware and NJ Coasts Thursday before reaching Nova Scotia late Thursday Night. A cold front from the West is forecast to arrive Friday Night. Another low and cold front may pass eastward through the Mid-Atlantic States next Sunday.

The weekend looks to be a mix of sun and clouds with the potential for some snow/snow showers both days. Sunday could bring more substantial snow, but that is too far out to call. Temperatures will be average.  Water, surf and beach conditions look Cautious at this time. They may recover late Saturday to Sunday, but there will be frontal and low passages this weekend that could increase winds and seas.

Have a great week!

Re: Snow Friday Night into Saturday Morning
« Reply #5 on: February 14, 2014, 10:55:12 AM »
Another Nor'Easter will work up the coast late tonight into Saturday Morning. This will be weak, for the most part, only bringing 1-3 inches across the state. This will be followed by some very cold air for the weekend. Coastal impacts will continue with this storm, with some gusty winds, and higher seas and surf. Coastal flooding does not look to be a problem with this system.

Weekend Outlook to follow, shortly. Saturday will eventually clear out and stay that way through Sunday with subfreezing temperatures.

Have a good Friday!
