The mild temperatures were nice, but we are back into Winter with an active/unsettled weather pattern this week bringing precipitation, Arctic Air, winds and cautious to hazardous water conditions. It really is getting close to Spring with just a few weeks left. Already, the days are becoming longer and the sun’s influence getting stronger with increasing UV indices. Today will be dry and sunny, but windy. High temperatures will get into the upper 30’s with teens and low 20’s overnight. Tuesday will bring chances of snow showers, increasing into the overnight and for Wednesday. A weak Winter Storm/coastal low will brush the area before moving out to sea. This could bring 1-3 inches of snow across the state, right now. This snow will clear out for Wednesday Night, but the following cold front will bring more Arctic Air and lows in the low teens to single digits. It will be dry, sunny and cold through Friday Night before some chances of snow return leading into Saturday with continued cold air. Water conditions will vary this week, but for the most part winds will cause Cautious to Hazardous conditions with Small Craft Advisories. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok. The gusty winds will be mainly from the west, keeping surf down. Water temperatures are steady in the low 30’s to low 40’s inland, surf temperatures in the mid to upper 30’s and offshore waters in the upper 40’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate in the 1-3/15 range.
High pressure will build into the region from the west for Monday and Monday Night. A disturbance in the upper atmosphere approaching from the West is forecast to pass overhead around midday on Tuesday. An area of low pressure is expected to develop along the Carolina Coast on Tuesday Night before moving northeastward and out to sea. A strong cold front from the west will pass through the region on Wednesday Morning followed by high pressure. Additional cold fronts are forecast to arrive late on Thursday and again on Saturday.
The weekend looks to settle down some, with some chances of snow on Saturday, then clearing out with clear skies. Highs will be in the 20’s and 30’s with lows in the teens and 20’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look good right now.
Have a great week!
