Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Matt, Ben and Nathan from St. Louis chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL as a gift for their father, Kip Leonard.  We had winds out of the west at 10 mph, seas running 2-3 ft with blue skies.

After leaving the dock at Bahia Mar, the Happy Day Today stopped in the Fort Lauderdale port to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T bait.  Kip put an order in for a large fish so hopefully we can accommodate him later in the trip by doing some live bait fishing.  As I trolled the reef catching four Bonitos and three Kingfish, I noticed a rip forming with a good color charge.  I told my mate, Mark, that this is where we will set up the kite for live bait fishing.  We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one from the rigger, and we sat and waited for his arrival.

It was Kip’s day – the wait did not take long as the bill and the dorsal fin raised out of the water on the right short kite bait and wasted no time in eating the live Goggle Eye.  Ben hopped into the fighting chair and his father cheered him on – just what he wanted to see!!!  The Sailfish tail-walked out of the water with the sun reflecting on the gorgeous neon silver and blue colors – “What a spectacular show”, Kim remarked.  Twenty-five minutes later, Mark wired the 87” Sailfish bringing him in for picture taking and later released to fight again.

Father and sons retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
