March 1 st opening day in the back waters
« on: February 25, 2014, 04:03:04 PM »
March 1 st is Saturday and that is opening day of the back water fishing for Bass.

The water is still cold and most of the ice has melted off the bay.....I would normally have my first Bass of the season by the first or second week of March.

We could really use some nice weather and some heavy rain to warm up the back bay faster.

I'll probably hit the creek early next week and see what's up.

Dave, i realize you are talking about Barnegat bay. How deep is the water in that area. i fish mainly the raritan Bay. i think it  is not that deep at all, but since we had colder weather then the south will that hold true for my area too.

I know you can't predict the future, but you have more time in vested in this then anyone i know. so you are the GURU ?

Thanks Dale  t^

GURU.....LMAO....The mud flats in Belford is one of those early spring areas to keep a close eye on.....The guys will start fishing clam in March and April from the shore line.

The warm days will heat the dark mud bottom fast and that's where the early spring Bass will stay.....until the Bunker show up in mid April.

We both know you need to paddle a good mile of so to hit any kind of deep water up your way....and if the guys are casting from shore in 4-5 feet of water then that's where I would hang with the kayak.......

Drifting a clam ball with a light egg sinker is deadly on a kayak....you can sure cover more ground that way.

I'm suppposed to go on sat and get the first weigh in of the season....we are waiting to get the real forecast.....water temp is a bit low and with the super cold overnight temps coming it will drop another 2 degrees...so we are still undecided.

Well Mother Nature has thrown another curve ball at us. i already have about 2-3 feet of snow on the ground, cant see traffic at intersections because the snow is to damn high. know they are giving us more in the north of NJ. guess Bass season may bit a little late in the northern part of jersey.....

So here it is anyone who is missing winter and feels like they need snow. i am have a sale on all the snow you can take, no limits come and take as much as you want or as little.

come on spring.......
