Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Peter McHugh, an outdoorsmen/hunter/angler and a good customer of mine, along with his son, 15 year old Aidan, from Massachusetts chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It was good to see Peter again as he returned to the scene of the crime – on his last trip out he was rewarded with a 64 lb Kingfish (Anaconda), along with a Hammerhead Shark. Peter’s request for this charter was to do some Shark fishing.
Winds today were out of the northeast at 12 mph, seas were running 3-4 ft. We stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes later I was sitting on top of one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale located in 240 ft. of water. I thought it would be a good idea to start off with Aidan being our angler. We made a drop on top of the artificial wreck which produced a 35 lb. Amberjack, which put a smile on Aidan’s face. From there I moved out to the Shark grounds, which is located in 350 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale. We set out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes, one Shark bait on the surface and one on the bottom. As Peter and his son were enjoying each others company, the deep rod bent over, and line started to peel off of the 80 International Reel. Peter jumped into the fighting chair, and after a 45 minute battle, he was rewarded with an 8 ft. Tiger Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.
We reset and our next strike was a double header Mahi Mahi from the kite. We reset for the third time and with less than five minutes left on the trip, lines started to scream off of the reel from the surface Shark bait rod. Aidan was our angler as he hopped into the chair and strapped in to do battle. Fifty minutes later, Aidan successfully brought the 8 ½ ft. Hammerhead Shark to the boat. Job well done, Aidan!!!! – What a story to tell your high school buddies!!!!! Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.
We headed back while the anglers retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. Thanks, Peter – see you on your next trip.
