Weakfish Report 10/18/07 Pic Added
« on: October 18, 2007, 01:15:58 PM »
Man, weakies are a funny fish. Everyone says they are an early morning/late evening proposition, boat/motor shy, and generally hard to catch.

I do know they tend to hang in a place they like, and feed in short spurts, depending on tide/water conditions.

With all this in mind, I get my butt outta bed 5AM, and I'm at the Point Pleasant canal fishing at 6AM. Flailing the water with Fin-S and not getting a bite, not even a bluefish(thank you God). Finally got a bluefish about an hour later, and was hoping a school wasn't coming in, in light of the fact that they destroyed 2 dozen Fin-S fish on me yesterday morning.

Well, 1 bluefish and thats it till 9:30. Now we have a bright sunny sky, hot 80 degree weather, boat traffic, etc., etc., and the right tide, incoming from the river, dead water in the canal, just starting to flow into the bay.

From 9:30AM to 10:45 I caught 5 weakies, and lost 3, all on pink Fin-S fish. then as quickly as it started, it died.

Smallest ran 20 inches long, largest was 25 inches even, and 5 3/4 lbs. I didn't bother weghing the others. I will try to get a pic later and post it if one of the kids are around, but I had to get them in a cooler on ice with this weather.

Unbelievable(this weather), I'm reading reports that baitfish are moving out of the river heading south, and I'm just not seeing it. The river and canal is loaded with peanut bunker, mullet, spearing and killies, I don't ever think I've seen as many peanut bunker as I've seen this year.

A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!

Nice catch man. Ya know- last nice I was out on the jetty and didn't get anything-went through about 5 bubble gum sparkle fin-s-nut no takers. I stop in Wawa to get a drink and this college kid comes acting weird and in a really weird exchange he told me he and some friends just caught 6 blues at the Townsends Inlet Bridge- 3 blocks away from the jetty. He needed some butter to cook up his catch. I was so put off by his luck I didn't tell him where the butter was!

Is that wrong?
I think I could be a really good people person if wasn't for the people.

I'm not catching any more fish, but I'm starting to learn why I'm not catching any more fish.
