What size boat? You can start at the mud hole and head to the glory hole which are both good spots to start.
How far you want to go and what species are you targeting and method of catching?
Been seeing some very good reports of bonito and fat alberts lately. How far out I couldn't tell you.Perhaps one of the captains here can steer you in the right direction.

Save yourself the time and maybe your life even and go on a boat that knows what they're doing offshore. You'll learn much more that way.
I'd run out to the Axle Carlson reef...look for some pots...they have those sticks with the little flags on them...they have been loaded with small mahi all summer..we saw some yesterday on the Monger...only 2 maybe 3 miles out..I'd give that a try
