NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: Sept 27-28, 2014

Weather looks good and water conditions improve for the weekend. After the blow out of a week, this weekend will be welcomed by many. Both days look dry and warmer with upper 70’s to low 80’s. Sunny skies mixed with minimal clouds until Sunday Night, when clouds will slowly start building in to the area. Overnight temperatures will range from upper 40’s across the north to low 60’s along the coast. Most areas will see 50’s overnight. Humidity will be moderate to even higher for this time of year. Areas with lower lows will have less humidity, especially at night. Water conditions look mostly good. The key to the weekend is how fast waters recover from this week? This morning buoys are still seeing winds to 20+ knots and seas 5-10 feet from inshore to offshore. Conditions look good for most locations for the weekend. Saturday will have moderate winds and seas will run 3-5 feet or more at 8 seconds. Southern and offshore waters look more borderline than elsewhere. Saturday is a check the buoys and check conditions in person. Rivers and bays should not be a problem at all, so there is always that option if the ocean is still running high. Sunday will be better than Saturday, with calmer winds and seas should settle by then, depending upon how much they settle Friday and Saturday. Sunday should see closer to 3-4 foot seas at 8 seconds. Surf and beach conditions look good. Again, Saturday could see some 15+ knot winds and surf will be rougher around 2-4 feet with High Risk of Rip Currents. Sunday will see surf less rough around 1-3 feet and Moderate to High Risk of Rip Currents. This is far from the 10 feet seen this week, but waters could still be strong, so be careful! Water temperatures are cooling some, but still in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. UV Index will be High at 6/15.

High pressure will continue to build across the region through the weekend. A cold front is expected to move across the area Monday. Then move to the south by morning. Another low pressure system may move off the Southeast Coast early next week and move towards the area on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Next week has chances of rain through Wednesday as another potential coastal storm may affect the area. Thursday and Friday look to dry out. Highs will be in the 60’s and 70’s with upper 70’s to start the week. Overnight lows will be in the 40’s to 60’s, cooler air works in during the overnight. Water, surf and beach conditions will be good through Tuesday and move back into the borderline to cautious and even hazardous by Wednesday and Thursday. If this system holds true, winds will be gusty and seas will build to 7+ feet again, prompting Small Craft Advisories. This will be the ticket to watch for next week.

There is an area of invest east of the Lesser Antilles. This is something to watch right now as well. Models are not doing much with it at the moment.
