Weather will be split, but water conditions will be hazardous as a moderate to strong Nor’Easter moves northeast offshore. Saturday will be cloudy with high chances of rain with those chances decreasing into the overnight. Sunday will be mostly sunny, clearing throughout the day. There is a slight chance of showers on Sunday with any lingering bands from the coastal low and these chances are mainly across the northern part of the state. The talk of snow for northern NJ has waned as the cold air will move in after the precipitation. However, a blast of cold air will move in with highs only in the 40’s and 50’s and lows in the 20’s to 40’s. Two low pressure systems will combine over the next two days, one being over the Ohio Valley and the other off the Carolina Coast. As these systems phase, a moderate to strong low pressure system will develop over the Atlantic. This Nor’Easter will stay well off the Jersey Coast and move northeast, however gusty winds, high seas, rough and high surf, minor beach erosion as well as minor coastal flooding and heavy rains will be possible on Saturday and windy into Sunday. Water and surf conditions will be cautious to hazardous with gale force winds to 40 knots possible. Seas will run 4-8 feet on average and surf will be rough at 4-8 feet as well with dangerous rip currents. Even the bays and rivers will see cautious conditions this weekend. Water temperatures are slowly falling in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s still. Southern and offshore waters are the warmest still. UV Index will be low to moderate. Remember, Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, so don’t forget to set your clocks back.
High pressure currently over the region will move to northern New England by Friday Morning. Low Pressure over Ohio will join with low pressure off the Carolina Coast and form a strong Nor’Easter southeast of Cape Cod by late Saturday moving northeast into the Canadian Maritimes by Sunday. Strong high pressure will then move into the Carolinas by the beginning of the week and then moves east and into the Central Atlantic around Wednesday.
Next week will start dry, with rain chances moving in around midweek. Highs will be in the 50’s and 60’s with lows in the 30’s and 40’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be hazardous to cautious, slowly improving for later in the week.
Tropics are quiet in the Atlantic. The Pacific is still turning out systems with Tropical Storm Vance which will eventually move into Mexico.
Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!
