Skip says, the only reason Capt Joe invites me out fishing with him is so I will write the report. So, I went fishing with Joe today, and here is the report.
We left a little later than usual due to Andy helping Joe install a new wash down/live well pump. The job was completed by 9:00 and Joe, Andy, Kevin and I were on our way to look for the striped ones. Flip a coin - north or south? Recent good reports off of Seaside and IBSP convinced us to turn in that direction.
We jigged and trolled all the way down to the boardwalk with nothing to show for our efforts. It looked like nobody else was doing anything either. So, by 1:00, with the tide running out at the marina, Joe posed the question - go in now while there's still enough water at the dock or stay out until 5:00 when there's more water? With the lack of action we decided to head in.
The only problem was, there was already not enough water at the marina when we got back. So, we refueled and went back out for round 2.
The afternoon trip was better. We found life right outside of the inlet and fairly tight to the beach. And once we found out what they wanted to bite we were into some striper action! No big ones today, but we were able to catch a decent amount of schoolies and "just unders" to make it fun.
What they wanted was a white bucktail tipped with 6" white Bass Kandy Delight or pink Fin-S. The fish didn't stay in one place for too long. This was mostly because of ignorant or just plain inconsiderate boaters running right through them.
So, after chasing them for a good part of the afternoon, we decided to pull the plug around 4:30 and head in. Fortunately for us, the last fish of the day was a fat, 29" keeper!
