Fish Monger Jersey Cod Monster, Ling and Blackfish Trip - Wrap up

Well, despite all of NJBob's grim weather predictions the hardy NJSWF crew of Kenny, Uncle Luna, Q Ball, Reel McCoy, Dan Jr., Treebeard, IrishAyes, Johhny Oz, Hunter 2 and myself,  left that dock of 0700 hours for Fish Monger first official trip of 2015 season. With the boat loaded with two Box-o-Joes, two dozen Dunkin Donuts, one tube of biscotti, several boxes of cookies, assorted meats and cheeses and one happy Kenny we broke in inlet to beautiful seas and favorable winds.  After a quick ride to Shark River Reef it was finally fishing time.  Fishing itself wasn’t great. Jerry moved us all day to different rock piles, wreck and such. Some spots had a few fish on them some had nada. We ended you with about a dozen keepers cod, maybe thirty short cod, a few ling and zero tog.  It didn’t look like the rest of the fleet did much better as they were all moving and searching all day too.  I think Dan, Mark and Lenny had the big fish of day.  Clam tipped with gulp is what we used, 8 to 10 sinkers and the standard high low rigs. As always Jerry and crew worked their butts off to provide a great day on the Monger.  After another long winter it was nice to be on the water again. Thanks to the NJSWF crew, it always a  pleasure fishing with you guys.

Thanks Phil for putting the trip together.  Capt.Jerry never left the helm and power drifted all day.  Mates John and Kevin were great. Can't wait to do it again Monger style.

Thanks for the report Phil.    It was great that you guys got to wet a line and catch some fish. They were not my weather predictions, I was just quoting NOAA who we all know are NEVER wrong.  

The gulp with clams has been the hot bait on the OE from Belmar in his reports for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully as the water warms up the fishing will get better.

Did you catch many "Endangered" doggies?

PS Keep up the vapor pipe Kenny . You can do it one day at a time. I passed another test personally first cod caught for me and first non smoking fishing trip ever !

Had a great time fishing with the crew yesterday.  I did manage to throw 2 Cod and a ling in the box which was more than I expected for my first trip of the year. Capt. Jerry, John and Kevin worked hard all day keeping the boat on the pieces and out of the pieces too

Fun trip is right. Great boat, great captain, great mates and great crew.

Lotsa laughs, lotsa food.

Although the keepers were hard to come by the fishing itself wasn't poor. Captain Jerry had on moving all day trying to find the mother lode. Wasn't meant to be. Didn't see a whole lot of action on the party boats that were in the area.
