NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: June 6-7, 2015

The weekend will be sandwiched between rain on both ends and water conditions will be cautious mainly for seas. Much needed rain chances will come to an end Friday Night late and clouds will begin decreasing into Saturday. Saturday early day could see chances of scattered or isolated showers and thunderstorms, with chances increasing to the south. Then a mix of sun and clouds, with what looks to be more sun than clouds, into Sunday. Sunday will see increasing clouds later in the day with rain chances moving in very late into Monday Morning. Highs will be in the 60’s to low 80’s with overnight lows ranging from the mid 40’s to 60’s. Water conditions will be mostly borderline to cautious with some SCA’s possible. Winds will not be so bad, but ocean waters could see seas to 6 feet inshore and 10 feet midshore to offshore. A moderate onshore flow out of the east to east-northeast will increase seas, as well as low pressure passing offshore. Rivers and bays will not be affected by these seas, but could see some winds to 15 knots and even some gusts to 20 knots. Seas could definitely vary from 3-6 feet, so checking conditions by day, time and location will be a good idea. Check live conditions and buoys if you are looking to get out. NOAA forecasts are always more cautious, while BW is more of an average. Even in this case BW is still saying 4 feet at 8 seconds, which for most Small Craft will make for sporty conditions, at best. Surf and beach conditions will be ok to cautious. Fishing-wise, it will be doable, but surf conditions will be rough with wave heights to 6-6+ feet in places and Moderate to High Risk of Rip Currents. So, be aware and certainly do not swim in unguarded waters. Water temperatures dropped a few degrees with the cooler air that moved in the last few days. Temperatures range from 50’s to 70’s. UV Index will be High to Very High at 6-8/15.

High pressure to the northeast will slowly move off towards the east through the end of the week, allowing a cold front to move through early on Saturday. Another strong high pressure system will pass through the region on the weekend before another low pressure system tracks into the Great Lakes early next week sending its cold front through on Tuesday.

The upcoming week will start with rain chances and/or thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday, then dry for the rest of the week. Hot and humid air will return with highs in the low to mid 80’s and overnight lows in the 60’s to low 70’s. Humidity will be moderate to high this week. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious on Monday, Tuesday and even possibly into Wednesday with gustier winds and higher seas. Conditions will improve towards the middle to end of the week.
