Fished on Pete's (Atlantic Bait & Tackle) Grady-White Sailfish out of Puerto Juarez, Cancan with Capt Carlos at the helm and Raoul working the deck. We jigged up a bunch of live baits (some kind of jack) on sabiki rigs until the Capt said we had enough. He rewarded us with delicious roast pork sandwiches which we ate before heading about an hour offshore of Isla Mujeres.
Two live baits were trolled slowly on downriggers, soon we had two baracudas in the box. Next fish was a Yellowtail Jack which put up a nice fight. We made a move and got set up again with the live bait on the downriggers and ballyhoo on the surface lines. Lots of weed made it tough for Raoul who was constantly clearing the lines. Soon we had a fish crash one of the top water baits but no hook-up... Two minutes later one of the downrigger lines goes off and its game on. I got to land my first wahoo after a great fight.
Fishing slowed for a while and the Capt made another move and we was marking fish 20-40' down. The live baits were sent down and soon we were into Amberjack. After two of these hit the deck I told the Capt no mas but I guess he did not understand my Spanish...the last of the live baits went down and I got to fight two more...
I had another great trip with Capt Carlos and I got to add three more species caught to my list, Wahoo, Amberjack and Yellowtail Jack.
