Reel Class Bass-Bluefish 11/17 -- SLAMFEST PT. II
« on: November 17, 2007, 08:30:23 PM »
Had Steve Magyari, his brother RJ, and buddy Dale aboard today for a jig trip.  Broke the inlet at 7:30 and found birds for miles to the nroth and south.  Started out just S of the inlet, off Jenks, fish on immediately.  Cocktail blues, coupled with many short bass and some measurables.  Stayed w/ these fish for awhile.

Ran a bit north off Spring Lake, action a little more spread out, but bigger fish... RJ boated a bluefish that weighed ~19#, one of the biggest ever taken on my boat, followed by a couple of keeper bass, all on jigs.

Continued North after I got a call.  A quick stop off Deal put some more bluefish and bass in the boat, then we headed north to Long Branch and found the motherlode.

Alfred Hitchcock type bird stuff, birds, fish everywhere, on top, on the bottom, etc.  Followed these fish the rest of the day all the way down to SRI.  At times we had fish rolling right on the side of the boat, they couldn't care less we were there...  Poppers, jigs, storm shads; ANYTHING caught fish today all depending on where the fish were in the water column.

We had NO LULLS throughout the day, it was pure insanity.  From the moment we broke the inlet, until we got back inside after 3PM, we had fish.  The only time we weren't catching fish was when I was moving the boat!

Fish count was also insane, with 2-4 fish on at a time throughout the day, we estimated that we boated ~100 bass, with at least that many bluefish.  Bass ranged from 20-29", and we had some nice keepers in the box at the day's end, however the fish in the 22-26" range far outnumbered the keepers.  Bluefish?  3-19#!

What a day, I sincerely hope a lot of people from here got into this action, it was another one for the books!
