A very unsettled week causing mixed weather conditions and poor water conditions. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible all week with thunderstorms early in the week followed by mainly showers for the middle and end of the week. Forecasts are calling for an inch to more than 2.25 inches for some areas this week. Highs will start off in the upper 80’s to low 90’s inland and by the end of the week drop down into the low to mid 80’s. Temperatures at the shore and in northern parts of the state will be a few degrees cooler. Overnight lows will also start off higher in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s and then will drop into the lower to mid 60’s by the end of the week. Again, higher lows at the shore and lower lows across northern areas. Humidity will be higher and gradually become more moderate. Some thunderstorms in the beginning of the week could be strong to severe and will updated daily. Water conditions will be borderline to cautious to hazardous on ocean waters with gusty winds to 25 knots possible and seas to 6 feet inshore and 10 feet midshore to offshore. Rivers and bays will have some pockets of good conditions mixed in with borderline to cautious conditions. Surf and beach conditions will be mixed good to cautious. Winds will be gusty at times, surf will be rough and will range from 2-4 feet to 4-6+ feet possible. Rip Current Risks will be Moderate to mostly High this week. Some better conditions are possible mixed in, so checking conditions daily will be necessary. If you plan on entering ocean waters or ocean meeting bay waters, be sure to check Rip Current and Surf Risks. Water temperatures have increased by a couple to a few degrees again, making most waters in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Surf temperatures are also in the mid 70’s to low 80’s. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High at 4-9/15.

A high pressure system over the Central Appalachians will gradually move southeast through Monday. A cold front from the Great Lakes is forecast to cross the region early Tuesday with a secondary cold front following early Wednesday. This front will stall just south of the area through the end of the week as waves of low pressure move along it. The last and strongest wave of low pressure should pass offshore on Saturday with a high pressure system from Eastern Canada building southward on Sunday.

The weekend looks to be mostly dry with just some chances of showers on Saturday. Highs will be in the 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions may be better for the weekend, with a mix right now, of good to cautious conditions. Saturday could see residual seas and Sunday could see gusty winds return?

The systems being watched in the tropics last week, are off the “radar.” A new system being watched is in the GOM west of Florida and should cross the state and into the Atlantic over the next days. There is a low chance for development, but will be watched this week.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Severe Weather Possible Monday Night and Tuesday
« Reply #1 on: August 03, 2015, 11:09:53 PM »
A late update for the rest of tonight, Monday, and into Tuesday. Severe Weather is possible across parts of Northern NJ and a generalized thunderstorm risk for the rest of the state tonight and a severe risk for a majority of the state tomorrow. Storms could be capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, hail, and even tornadoes. Be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts.

Water conditions will continue to be cautious tomorrow with rough and high surf conditions with a Moderate Risk of Rip Currents.
