Overall, a very unsettled weekend with some chances of rain and cautious to hazardous water conditions. Saturday will be mostly dry with a mix of sun and clouds, likely more clouds than sun with increasing clouds into the overnight. Saturday Night will bring chances of rain showers carrying over into Sunday. Sunday will have more clouds than sun and sun will be scarce, with chances of showers all day. Both days will be breezy to windy with winds greater along the coast, but carrying over to the inland as well. The pressure gradient between high pressure and a low pressure system will enhance these winds inland and winds directly from the low pressure system will affect the coast and ocean waters. Highs will be in the 70’s with overnight lows in the 50’s and 60’s. With the continued push of northeast and east winds, tides are running higher than normal. Areas along the coast, especially from around Atlantic City to the south and up the Delaware Bay and River through Philadelphia, will see tides running a foot or more higher than average. These tides are reaching heights of High Astronomical Tide levels which could cause minor coastal flooding. Areas north of Atlantic City into Raritan Bay could see higher than normal tides, but these are running less than a foot above normal. Coastal Flood Advisories have been issued for Southern NJ Counties through Friday Night, but should be expected to be extended through at least Sunday. Water conditions will be cautious to hazardous this weekend as both winds from the pressure gradient and the low pressure system will affect area waters. Winds will gust 30+ knots with seas to 8-10 feet on the ocean. Rivers and bays will see lower winds and as a result lower seas, but even back waters could continue to be sporty, at best. These conditions look to persist through midweek at the earliest and may even stick around all next week. Surf and beach conditions will be cautious to hazardous as well, with gusty winds to 30+ knots, rough and high surf to 8+ feet, higher than normal tides and a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Be careful in any ocean waters and along jetties! Water temperatures are a few degrees cooler in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 2-6/15.
A strong high pressure system over Canada will build southward along the Appalachians through the weekend. A trough of low pressure will develop off the Mid Atlantic Coast on Saturday and persist through early next week. A cold front is expected to cross the region during midweek, followed by high pressure.
Next week will start off with chances of showers followed by dry conditions and then shower chances again midweek and again dry for the rest of the week. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds with some days having more clouds than sun. Highs will be in the 70’s to low 80’s with overnight lows in the 50’s and 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be mostly cautious to even hazardous. A low pressure system will cause high winds for Sunday and through Tuesday. However, conditions do not improve in the forecasts much through Thursday right now. Gusting winds to 30+ knots, seas to 8+ feet, rough surf with high risk of rip currents, higher than normal tides with a continual northeast and easterly onshore flow could even cause some minor coastal flooding.
The tropics are still active with Ida now a Tropical Depression and Invest in the GOM. Ida is just lingering at sea and right now will not move or change much over the next few days.
