NY Sportfishing Federartion Show
« on: February 12, 2008, 07:05:08 AM »
If any of you having nothing to do over the weekend and have a few hours to kill, I'd highly recommend heading out to Freeport Long Island and spending a few hours at the NY Sportfishing Federation Show & Auction. February 15-17 (www.nysf.org) 130 East Merrick Road in Freeport. It really isn't that bad or hard a drive.

I've gone to this show the past few years but am unable to attend this year  :'(. Although there are 1 or 2 vendors that seem to be at every show there are plenty of vendors that we here in NJ never see (allot of LI B&T shops, rod builders, charter boats etc.).

If you're into using teasers on your fluke rigs (like I am) then this is the place for you. There are 2 vendors (1 usually in the lobby & the other in the main room) that tie the most amazing teasers you've ever seen. BTW, the can be used for other species other than fluke. I usually load up big time on teasers here (& for those of you who know me or have seen my tackle bag--you know what I mean when I say load up).

They also usually have a very good line up of seminars. "Crazy" Alberto Knie is speaking on Sunday I believe. Following Sunday's seminars they have a great auction.

Saturday hours are 8-6 and Sunday 9-3. I figure most wont want to face LI traffic on Friday so I'm not posting the show hours for that day.

Young Gull and I MIGHT be going.
Originally going to check out a rod from a rod builder, but decided against going that route, but still may go for some seminars.

A gentlemen by the name of Capt. Neil is always there who has very reasonably priced customs rods. His booth is usually the first one as you enter the main exhibit hall. As luck would have it, one of the tyers of the fluke teasers I mentioned in my original post is also usually at the same table.

I might (& I stress might) be able to get out there on Saturday. Looks as if what I originally had planned is going to be canceled. I'll have to wait (& hope  ;D) to have gotten my tax refund by then.
