Barnegat Inlet

I'm going out of Barnegat Inlet for Stripers on Friday.

I plan on trolling.
Any advice, locations,  will be appreciated.

I have no advice to offer you on trolling.  But I can see some folks looking at your post right now, who will probably be hooking you up with some good tips shortly!

 when the action is on, no one spot is hot, and in the area of barney inlet there is not much for structure within the 3mile limit.

 places of interest should include, harvey cedar lumps, gilkens to SSpark to include the rain drain pipe, and off the old coast guard staion there are some gravel beds hidden, i honestly dont know exactly where or i would tell ya. ol'timer next to boat slip told be about them.

Hi OceanFisher,

The word is the north side of IBSP near the guard shack in 25-35 ft. water up to Brick beach. I hate to troll but if you need to locate fish then you need to locate the fish. I would think you may have to travel a bit as the better fishing has been north of the Surf Club so far this Fall.

I would plan not only trolling, but bring Ava jigs with green tails (ton of sand eels around).

Of course, look for any diving birds.

The fishing is still better near Sandy Hook but it is worth a try. This time of year, I always have some clams on board as well if I get good readings but cannot get them to bite artificials.

The early migrators are here but they are mostly shorts. The big bodies of fish seem to still be up off Long Island.

I hope the weather holds for you as thee weekend looks like a bust already. I am pulling my boats starting tomorrow.

For those inclined to surf fish, the NE wind on Friday should bring the bait and fish closer to shore. After the blow on Friday night/Saturday, it may be a good Sunday afternoon/evening clamming.

troll up and down the beaches

Hi OceanFisher,

I was out scouting my local haunts this morning during low tide.  The Lavellette and Ortley beaches look good and there was a huge amount of bait about 1/8 of a mile off shore.  The birds were working in closer what looks like rain fish or spearing.

I watched in amazement as one large, no huge, school of bait traveling south was scattered by some NOOB  bngh in a well equipped boat that decided to run right up their middle, needless to say it just scattered them all to hell.

I tried to get pictures and even shoot some video but it all happened way to fast to set up and so no pictures today. I do have a picture of the boat but I choose not to post it and give this guy any recognition  I will be out there tomorrow hopefully.  High tide around 06:14 Low tide 12:25 and low again at 18:30.

As a point of observation, there were fish breaking the surface off Ortley about an hour after low tide, just over the outer bar.  I will be all set up to video tape tomorrow and hopefully the captain that did the scattering will head further up north.

SLOWWWWWWW troll.  Before the latest big blow I was using umbrellas with shad, black over pearl and all pearl.  We caught way to many blue fish but did manage two stripers, one was 24" the other was 34".

Caught a bunch of blues on umbrella rigs, no stripers 
Also caught a few blues on Mann's deep divers.

Going out Sun, will try clams/eels at the North Jetty.
