Had Bluefish Steve, Steve Magyari, Fin-S Bob, and Mike Striffler aboard for a jig trip. Started out north, found some small patches of birds working in close, caught shorts and small bluefish. Continued working roughly the same area, went off a bit, and got into more fish in a bit deeper water. BF Steve bagged his first ever striper, a nice 29" fish on a A47 (congrats Steve!). Continued North, found some more bird action up off Asbury, had a few real good drifts jigging butterflies and AVAs right in on the beach in 20' of water.
Wound up heading back south, had some decent life to the NE of our inlet, with more bass and bluefish mixed in, some real gator sized bluefish. For the most part, from 7:30-11AM we had a decent pick, thereafter thing went into the crapper.
By 11AM, things really slowed down. Took a ride down the beach all the way to Normandy, found tons of sandeels right on top, with some decent fish readings around, but couldn't get a bite.
We wound up with about 15 short bass, with 2 keepers in the mix (1 by juicebox and 1 by Steve), and roughly 2 dozen bluefish in the 4-12# range. To summarize we had a decent morning bite until around 11, then after that, like a switch, things shut off. Tough day overall, hopefully more fish are on their way down.
