Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Ricky Dixon from Texas invited two of his friends/customers, Nick Cockett from Washington, and Nick Armstrong from California to a four hour fishing charter with the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.   As Ricky and his guests boarded the charter boat, I asked them what type of fishing they are interested in.  Ricky’s response was any fish - he just wanted to have a good time.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would be in 500 ft. of water.  Fort Lauderdale has over 36 artificial wrecks sitting off of its coast, ranging from a depth of 64 ft. of water out to 520 ft.  These wrecks consist of barges, tug boats, oil rigs, freighters, etc.  These artificial wrecks will attract bait fish and in return the predators are there feeding.  It’s a good idea to have a chart on board your boat showing where the local wrecks are located.

We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a pink and blue sea witch and the other with a chartreuse sea witch – both with double hooked Bonito strips.  For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.   As I trolled from one artificial wreck to the other ranging from 80 ft. of water out to 300 ft., the three anglers took turns bringing in a total of 11 Kingfish and three Barracudas, while they sipped their beers and enjoyed the Ft. Lauderdale weather.

It was time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  Mission accomplished.
