Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Darrin and Melody Purcell from Wisconsin chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Darrin and Melody wanted to target Sailfish and that's what we set out to do.

Just after leaving the dock, we stopped at the marina to grab a dozen live baits, Goggle Eyes, and thereafter went straight out to the Sailfish grounds.  Goggle Eyes are nocturnal baits and can only be caught before the sun rises.

We headed northeast of Fort Lauderdale to an area that has a healthy structure and reef for a half mile stretch.  When we arrived at the area, we saw a lot of Ballyhoos and flying fish.  We started kite fishing in 135 feet of water using two large S. F. E. Green kites and suspended two live Goggle Eyes from each kite.  We also put out two live baits free swimming from the riggers.   Once we were set up, we watched and waited for the predator to arrive.  Within 45 minutes a Sailfish was on and pulling drag.  Darrin was the first angler, and he battled the fish on lightweight tackle.  This Sailfish ran us out to much deeper water and finally tired out.   Darrin got the Sailfish along the side of the boat.  Our mate, Fred, took the hook out - pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to fight again.

We headed back to the area and reset the gear with two kites and four live Goggle Eyes.  Another 45 minutes passed and a Sailfish started eating the right short bait.  The Sailfish got hooked and started jumping and tail-walking on the water.  Melody was the angler for this Sailfish.  She did a great job angling the Sailfish while it continued jumping and dancing all over the ocean.  The second Sailfish dragged us out to 200 ft. of water.  After an intense battle, Melody brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat, the hook was taken out, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released.

With mission accomplished – not one but two Sailfish, a his and hers - it was now time to head back to the dock.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
