Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Chris and Julie Andrews, along with their sons, from Iowa chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  As the Andrews boarded the boat, the sons were inquisitive about Shark fishing – I told them that we would do some trolling and Shark fishing today.

Fifteen/twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.  We started out trolling with two plainers down – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Mullet strip.  For surface baits we had two Mullet strips and two Ballyhoos.  As we trolled the reefs, the whole family took turns bringing in their catches – four Kingfish, four Bonitos and one 33” Barracuda.

I could tell the boys were anxious to do Shark fishing, so we headed out to 350 ft. of water and put out three Shark baits – one surface, one midrange and one at the bottom. As the boys were sitting there, calling the fish – “here sharky, sharky” the bottom rod bent over – hooked up – as the 130 lb. Spider Line screamed off the 80 International Reel.  The whole family took turns reeling in the Shark and after a 45-minute battle, the Shark was brought to the side of the boat.  Mark, our mate, removed the hooks from the 88” Hammerhead Shark.  Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

With a smile on the family’s faces, it was time to head back to the dock – well job done, anglers.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
