Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Todd, Molly, Mate and Chris chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started the charter trolling using two deep lines with bait strips and three surface lines with Ballyhoos.  We trolled south of Fort Lauderdale from 100 feet of water out to 300 feet of water heading offshore.  There were a lot of seaweed, and I wanted to keep out of the major areas of weed.  Fishing up the current edge and back over the reef, avoiding the scattered weeds, was what I did, along with looking for birds and baitfish – there were a lot of flying fish.

We got our first bite, a 10 lb. Kingfish in 130 ft. of water.  I kept trolling the area south of Fort Lauderdale and caught another 10 lb Kingfish.  The next two fish we caught were Bonitos, which we got on the 3 inch drone spoon.   We were trolling over wrecks and rock piles along the reef line; the area with the most action was in 150 ft. of water.  Our next bite was another Bonito which we got on the surface rigger line.

Everyone wanted to catch something big, so we tried going for a Shark.  We put out two baits – one midrange and one on the bottom.  It did not take long before we got a Shark on – an 8 foot Tiger Shark - which ate the bottom bait.  The Shark ripped out 100 yards of drag and sounded.  All the anglers took turns bringing in the Shark, and they all did a great job.  Each run the Shark made was less, but it still put on a show diving deeper.  After 60 minutes of fighting the Shark, we got it along side the boat for a photo and released the Tiger Shark to live another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
