Replacement of Yamaha Power Head Anodes
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:14:30 AM »
After checking the power head anodes in my 2002 Yamaha F200, I decided it was necessary to replace them, and wish I had done so when I purchased the boat last November.I was soo busy doing other things to the boat, I overlooked this important item.

First, I removed the negative battery cable, then the spark plug cover from the rear of the powerhead. Then I loosened the anode cover bolt, (this is the one with the arrow in the photo). Do Not remove the bolt in the center of the cover, which is the one that attaches the anode to the cover, the anode can fall into the power head and take hours to take the motor apart to remove. Then remove the cover from the cylinder head.

Use a wire brush to clean the anode hole. Now you can remove the anode attachment bolt from the cover and remove the anode. Again, use a wire brush to clean the corrosion from the cover. You can use the wire brush to clean the anode and reuse it if you wish, as long as it's not worn down too much, but I recommend just replacing them (they are only about $10 each).

Attach the clean/new anode back onto the cover and slide a new rubber grommet over the anode and flush against the cover. Apply a light coat of grease to the grommet and then put the anode assembly back into the cylinder head hole. Line up the bolt hole, and install the bolt and tighten to torque specs.

After all anodes are cleaned/replaced, run the motor and check for leaks. No leaks, great. Reinstall the spark plug cover and cowling, your done. <'((((><

Thanks for the info FD. I didn't even realize there was an anode there. Silly me. Will have to check my F225 for it, and others.  ;D

150 doesnt have ones that are easily replaced. They are under the heads. There are 8 of them but heads have to be removed to replace them.

Good info, thanks. I have them too on my zukes in the same area. I don't think my owners manual shows them, but the service manual does.

I purchased this boat with the 2003 Yami on it last year. At the end of the season I decided to pull them have a look see. I wish I would have done it sooner, but was doing other things to the boat and this slipped my mind.  As you can see the condition required replacement.  Now I will always check them at the end of every season. I have no way of knowing if they were ever changed prior this. 5hrug  <'((((><
