removing old name from boat

Some sort of decal. Would a heat gun work to remove?

Thanks
Frank

there is actually a piece that goes on to the end of a drill, very tacky, and it peals all any lettering.  Thats what I used last year.  Look at Ebay.

Heat gun will work. Keep it on the cooler setting and keep your distance from the gelcoat.  Just heat it enough until the decal bcomes soft enough to peel off. You can use a plastic razor blade or just do it by hand.
The decal will remove fairly easy.  Its the "ghost" that will be harder to remove. Start with a light rubbing compound using gradually harder pressure.

Never heard of a plastic razor blade but I have used a plastic windshield scraper, the one used for removing ice from the windshield.  Plus the hairdryer works good as well.  Use just enough heat to soften the adhesive.

I've used a heat gun and it is okay. Many people have reported using "oven cleaner". It softens up the decal or paint.

Easy-Off will do the job for painted on letters.  I don't think it will work for tape or a decal.  I wouuld suggest a product called "Goof Off".  Works like magic! ;D

I get em from a parts jobber at work, I'm sure they can be found at Wal-Mart, Tru Value, etc.
Work great for removing decals w/o damaging paint or gelcoat.

Very cool, I never saw plastic razor blades before I will have to look for them.

Thank You for the picture Duffman.

I'll have to find them plastic blades and give it a try this spring.  I'm moving my reg numbers to a different location on the boat and will need to remove the old ones.

Thanks for the info.   t^
