Fishing buddy and I headed down to catch a PB at Belmar and as expected the BM had left by our arrival;
The OE had 70 fares with 1/2 hour to go, so we passed and headed to Brielle to see how the J II was.
35 fares, so we decided to give it a shot.
Weather was good, although not as warm as on shore.
Fishing was poor at best.
5 keeper tog all day for the boat.
I think I was or near hi hook with 2 toy togs.
Captain didn't seem to set up on snags, for the first two drops as no one lost any rigs and not even any bergall action.
Still nice to be out on a January day when you normally only think about getting out when the weather improves.
Saw a whale being corralled outside of the inlet by the Coast Guard..some site to see the blow. Not sure why they were doing what they did. The trip was almost worth that sight.
Stopped by to see the NK III come in and the reports were only a pick of a few ling for what looked like 30 to 40 fares.
Still not hanging up the rod if the weather cooperates. Nice being retired and not have to play hooky to get out when the weather is nice.
