  Spinning or casting when fishing from boat? Is there a right or wrong when choosing or just personnel choice?

personal choice...  I use all Penn spinning reels.

Personal choice and based on type of fishing you are doing.  Fishing from a boat can anything from the bay fishing to offshore.  I mainly use conventional reels but will use spinning when the situation calls for it.

I started out with a drop line (do they even have those anymore  ), moved up to a spincast, advanced to spinning and finally graduated to conventional/baitcast.

I'd estimate 80% of my fishing is with conventional gear and the rest is spinning.

I use both, depends on what kind of fishing situation I'm in. On your next few  fishing trips bring one of each,fish the same tackle on each one and see which one you like better for that type of fishing. After awhile you'll know what rod to fish on specific trips. <'((((><

I prefer conventional reels, Penn international baitcasters. Although I agree its a personal preference thing.

From the boat, I use conventional about 80% of the time, but that's because I'm an avid fluke/sea bass angler.  Next season, however, I'd like to get more into weakfish, which I think will necessitate a spinning reel with light tackle.  For weakfish in the past, I've always used spinning reels.
