Long rod + Long Cast = Empty Spool !!!!!!!
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:50:36 AM »
Hi All,

Just to show you what the long rods look like and what they can do check out this video on YouTube.  It is a pendulum cast leaving 0 line on the Penn 525.

If you listen carefully you can hear the reel sing.

But we have to remember that long casting shbould be used as a tool for catching fish and not the goal.  If the fish are in close as they are most of the time why waste your time casting beyond them all the time.  My personal opinion.

If you understand Italian good luck..

Happy Catching

Wow!!!  That guy has the technique down!! But like  IrishAyes said, it could have only had 50 feet of line on it! And, that's a heck of a long rod!  Looks like one of those fat 15 footers they sell at Wal-mart.

If a big fish takes it his line is probably gunna snap unless its a strong line. its like having the tightest drag setting.

thats about what I got out of it too. TT^

that looked like alot of effort. I was watching Pauls technique throwing light tackle in strong south wind and it looks like he barlely moves while casting yet the plug seems to be on the red bull ;D

The pendulum cast is the farthest cast on record, with a bait caster for surf fishing, second is the off the beach cast.

You are correct Capt. Mike.  It is possible to spool out with a setup like that.  Go to YouTube and type in Tournament Casting and watch some of the videos there.  There are actual tournaments here and in Europe.

If you want to learn to cast further pick up a book by Ron Arra and you will be amazed at what can be done even with short rods up to 10'.

A cast of 600 to 800' is not out of the ordinary with these guys and their ultra equipment.

I for one have practiced over the years and yes it is true the best casters make it look effortless.  But once you get the feel down it is easy to cast as far as someone (other than the professional)with a 15' rod who knows not how to use it right.

Happy Catching

PS see you tomorrow at the seminar.
