hydraulic steering
« on: April 08, 2007, 02:49:59 PM »
Does anyone know much about the hydrualic piston??  I think one of the seals is shot, do they sell rebuild kits for them??  i have a front mount for my outboard and just saw that new ones are pushin $550.  I may take it off and mess around with it a bit before doing anything but i figured maybe someone could offer some advice.

Hi Eden,

I am not a mechanic but can ask around.

   The piston reads
"SEA STAR OUTBOARD HYDRAULIC STEERING PART # HC5345"
i  appreciate your help, i'd really hate to spend the $$$ on a new one, its only in its 4th year

Hi Eden,

Might be a good place to start.

http://www.go2marine.com/category.do?no=14028&mfrno=253&sort=desc

There is a bunch of sutff on e-bay also if your into that.

I can still keep looking also.  Good Luck.

Hi Eden,

I would call Teleflex directly. It looks like there are seal kits and such for this model.

Their website is:

http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/

The email contact is:

northamericamarine@teleflex.com

Thanks,

Ed

PS. I checked iboats.com and thehulltruth.com and did not find a lot of info but you may want to post something in their Forums.

I got the seals and replaced them this week.  I was amazed at how rediculously easy it was to replace them.... i was expecting it to be a project.  Teleflex did a great job and the seals are all in one piece.... once the piston was off it was just unscrewing the bad seals and screwing the new caps back on.   Thanks again for the link b/c i got them from go2marine.
