TWIC CARD Requirement
« on: February 04, 2008, 08:43:32 PM »
I just recently heard about this one for any one with a USCG license.  I have done a little checking and it appears that this is for real.

Anybody else seen or heard this one?

Have you heard about this new requirement to retain a master license.  I checked the TSA web site and it appears that this is really happening.

Transportation Workers Identification Card - TWIC
This is the latest gem from Homeland Security's TSA.All workers in docks/yards or who work on ships, plus all those who hold a USCG license are mandated to obtain this new card. They are required to obtain this  card by Sept 25 08. The cost is a $135.00 for 5 years. Visa, MasterCard or money order or certified/cashiers check are the only form of payment accepted. Two visits to a specified location are required to obtain this card. The first visit provides your basic information for a TSA background check to determine if you are a TERRORIST. The second visit obtains inserts for your biometric credentials into the TWIC smart card. It will contain your picture, address, height, weight, and other biometrics information.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Charter and head boat captains MUST POSSES one of these new TWIC cards to renew their current captain's license. Their USCG license will not be renewed without it.
The nearest TWIC office location is is Philadelphia Regional Port, 3460 N. Delaware Ave. Phila., Pa. 19134.
More offices will be open this month, so check their website for locations. www.tsa.gov.twic
TSA TWIC help desk phone is 1-866-347-8942
USCG TWIC help desk phone is 1-877-MTSA-AID. Their Philadelphia office phone is1-215-425-1727

Capt Dave,

When they first came out with this charter/party boat captains did not have to get it.......just another money maker.

The only good thing is that is you have your MMD you save a few dollars because the background was done.

The nearest place in North/Central Jersey is on Staten Island nest to the Staten Island Ferry.

Web site for info and to reg.

http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/index.shtm

You can pre reg online and set your appointment to go.
