Long Island Cod
« on: January 26, 2008, 08:26:03 PM »
Did a trip out of Captree today on the Lana Theresa Charter boat and 4 of us bagged 15 cod, 5 ling, and 2 blackfish.  Not bad for a local cod trip!!

By far one of the nicest January days I've ever seen.  On the way home the porpoises put on an unbelievable show and I felt like I was far away on vacation somewhere.  It's nice to have some cod around locally.  Hopefully it will last.

How big were the cod and how far out on the Island did you have to go?

How big were the cod and how far out on the Island did you have to go?

Most fish ranged from just keepers up to about 8lbs.  We also had about 20-25 throwbacks. Nothing huge but extremely fun on tog tackle and that size is some extremely delicious eating.  We were fishing out of Fire Island Inlet which is in Western Suffolk county.  However, there seems to be a body of cod stretched from the mudhole in NJ all the way east to Montauk where they are experiencing some excellent fishing.  There are a few 6 pack open boats that sail from BKLYN and Queens and if you need more info shoot me a PM as I don't want to mention non-sponsors to respect this forum.  I'm going again in the morning and will report back here tommorrow night. GO BIG BLUE!!
