Tow vehicle problems
« on: February 20, 2008, 07:13:55 PM »
After towing the boat and trailer for one season I have problems. I always rinse the rear brakes and under carriage of my Chevy Avalanche after every use. Some ramps leave you no choice but to submerge some of the rear tires in the water. I just had to replace both rear brake rotors from rust, both emergency brake pads, new rear brake pads, and my brake backing plates are rusty too.NOT CHEAP  :'( :'(

So its better to travel to a ramp similar to Atlantic Highlands Municipal marina or Leonardo where your tires don't even get wet, than use a ramp that has a low pitch like keyport Municipal. t^  Just my 2cents..

Trailer tongue extension.  Total PIA to spend the time at the ramp to put it on, but worth it.
Just got rid of my '95 4Runner last year with 225k on it.  Only ever changed shoes in the rear. E-brake cables, backing plates etc were all original and in good shape. The ext works.

there are a few things you can do.

1. get a trailer with a longer tong.

2. get a power winch to load the boat on the trailer, this way you don't have to submerge the trailer to deep, hence the rear of the truck stays on land. When launching, just give the boat a push, or a little break jerk and the boat should slide off.

Once your rear tires are submerged, your only asking for trouble..

I can understand big bucks...I just had some major work don the the Expedition as well.  All new breaks all around plus ball joints and seals.  While I was at it I installed a front hitrch so I can mount my rod/cooler rack up front as well.

This was the first time since I bought the veh. back in 2000 that any major work has been done to it.  It has been on the beach every year I owned it so I think I did pretty well as far as hosing it down after every outing.

The total cost...Cha Ching, 2200 bucks.  Better than getting a new veh as I look at it.  I have everything the way I like it.  Especially with the front hitch added this year.

Happy Catching

LS3 --- next time, please zoom in on the hotty(in the 2nd pic) instead of pretending your're not taking a picture of her  >:D.

That Keyport ramp BLOWS!!!!!  The AH ramp is very steep and slippery at low tide.  Be careful.

Atlantic Highlands lost 9 tow vehicles last season, They all slid down the ramp according to the guys in the booth down there, They reccommend Blocking your wheels.
