Thanks for all the good input, I found this link that talked about the different types of braid. I may try an 8 strand type.  Some newer types of braid have a coating that protects the line better. I currently use powerpro and find it looking very poor toward the end of the season.

Many moons ago I worked with the Polymer scientists that developed Spectra at the Allied Signal labs in Morristown. As the above link covers, Spectra or Dyneema is Polyethene, which is a gel spun plastic that extends the polymer chains so that they are straight (extended chain) and not jumbled like the cheap plastic toy material.

The manufacturers of the Spectra braids all purchase the fiber material from Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal), so how they weave and treat the fibers is their technology, and makes them all different.  I like Pline for lines in the 10 to 20 lb range, because until several years ago, it had the smallest diameter of lines in that range; therefore lighter jigs and sinkers, especially drifting for fluke.

Color loss on a braided line should not effect the lines performance, and it normally occurs in the last section of the line. If that bothers you , color the line with a magic marker. I just usually cut off the discolored part periodically.

Stuff lasts along time.

The discoloration does not bother me but I was wondering if the slickness wears off is a sign of its time to change?  I read somewhere that by using bow string (as in bow and arrow )wax that it will add new life to an older braid.  Any thoughts, as this stuff is so expensive?  I would not want to change it every year.

Is the wax worth the effort?  Just strip some off and clip it.  Or, reverse it onto another reel.

Gottog -- have you tried, or plan to try, the Crystal Fireline?

Haven't tried the Fireline Crystal yet.  Heard good things about it from a few others though.  i always use a mono leader on my rods/reels so haven't really found the need to go to "invisible" line.  Plus I like hi-vis colors better especially on a crowded boat, pier, or jetty.  TT^

Did stock up a bit on their discontinued pink FL as Theresa likes it t^

Fireline works for me. Some other reels I put Powerpro just because I want to keep using what I bought and rotate the stock. Also, using up the mono as backing and on other reels as needed.

I love Power Pro and have used it for many years with no trouble at all.

I just recently tried a spool of Ugly Braid from Shakespeare and I was quite impressed by it.

It seems to bit a slight bit firmer than PP.

The knots are easy. I actually use many of the same knots as I did with mono.

With the braid your room for error is much larger. t^ t^

The hardest ones are the braid to leader(Mono or Fluoro) but once you master them its's easy.

Practice at home with some old line.

You get it in no time.
