I run 30 - 40# braid on everything.  I am strictly off the surf though.

I use 30# power pro briad for everything, if I am going off shore, I will go heavier, but for stripers, blues, fluke, I stick with the 30.

For flukies, I use mostly 20-30# braid, depending on the rod/reel that I'm using at the time.

I use the 30# Power Pro also.  I fish a lot of deeper water for fluke.  Usually can find me in water at least 60 feet or better.

BTW, welcome to the site.   t^

you cant go wrong with the braid to get your line down to the bottom, useing at least 1 oz less weight.

Welcome to the site. I use Power Pro with a fluoro leader.  Most of my reels now have 40lb yellow because I got a closeout price on two bulk spools.  I use Vanish Transition fluoro, 6-8' as a leader and snell the hook right to the end.  The Transition turns yellow in the sun so with the yellow braid and yellow leader you can really see your line. Transition only goes to 25lb so above that, for blues or stripers, I use regular Seaguar fluoro. Have never lost a fish due to line breakage.

I use 15lb braid for inshore fluking and 30lb braid for deeper water where more weight is required to hold bottom.

Fluke - bucktailing on spinners and conventionals as well as light duty bait dragging get 12#Fireline.  For dragging bigger baits, live snappers, and heavier bucktails around structure 20#Fireline.

I always use a mono leader.  On spinning gear it's about 3 feet, conventionals get "shock leader" lengths(14'+)
Ande and TripleFish mono leader skeins from 10# to 30# test.  TT^

Bluefish?  If on a charter or partyboat, go with mono.  Private boats, braid isn't that much of an issue with the yellow-eyed demons, but depends on technique and if you're going light-tackle or not.

30# braid spooled up and ready to be tried this year based on reccomendations here. Gonna try with fluoro leaders also.

Always used 30# mono in the past...

With the braid you will have to be careful though.  If you are going to be frequenting party Boats make sure you have a long enough mono leader.  The mates will growl as they do not want to get cut in your line.

Plus if you get tangled in someones line and they are running mono the braid could cut their line as well.

I carry a dowel and give it a couple of wraps to bring them over the rail, or land them on the beach.

Braid is great but it will give you a nasty cut so be aware.
