Looking for a good weather site for Keyport or Highlands
« on: March 20, 2008, 07:49:58 PM »
Does anyone have a good weather site for someone who lives north? I looking for someplace to check before I make the hour and a half trip to the hook. I hate getting there and find out the wind is blowing from the wrong direction, too much fog or the wave height was all wrong.
Thanks for any help.
Rick

I know a number of guys mentioned noaa but here is the specific link:

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/phi/

You can click on the radar composite loop and get info that is roughly 10 min behind real time.

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=dix&product=NCR&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

You might have to wait till JAVA loads.

I have used this for years and it has been really reliable.

Big site with tons of info as well.

I have a hand held vhf (as a backup along with handheld GPS), so if plan on just firing that up to get the NOAA weather before I leave the house ( in addtion to checking a bunch of sites). I am in the same boat as you, living an hour or so North.
I also call my pops as he lives down in the area.

I have the hand helds also, but NOAA does not always get it right, You will have to call me after you talk to pop. LOL

If Noaa ain't getting it right, most of the others aren't either.

Also try windguru.com. I find that to be pretty accurate.

This site I got from Skoalman I feel it covers the Raritan Bay area and coastal waters a little more accurately.

SouthPaw, that is on the same site.  The site is big and if you clock on the different parts of the map you can get different weather scenarios.

Click on the water in close and you get what you show click out further and you get High Seas report.

Pretty cool stuff.  The price is right as well.
