Berkely FireLine......
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:45:10 AM »
OK....I bought a roll of 4 lb test and I noticed that the product info shows two different knots to be used with this line.
One knot for splicing two lines together and one knot for the hook.

My question is, what is the best knot to use around the spool?

I should also mention that I was trying the simple clinch knot to attach it to the spool and it wasn't holding.

when tying it to the soop you should use a backing {mono} but since you are talking trout line I would wrap a piece of masking tape around the spool to stop slipping then continue w/ your knot, any knot should hold try using a triple over hand

Before tying the line to the spool tie a figure-8 knot (overhand knot going thru twice)to the end of the line.  If the line should slip the figure-8 will stop the line from going any further.   ;)
I have never used tape for a backer so I don't know if that will keep the line from spinning on the spool, but it sounds feasible, good tip.

Hi Sam,

Use some sort of backing (I use mono - lots of folks do use tape) directly on the reel and I use a uni to uni knot to attach the mono to the braid. Like Irish said to attach to the spool.

Why not bring it to a bait and tackle and let them do it? It is hard to wind the line tight at home ... the cost is not much different.

Thanks,

Capt. Ed

Hi Capt. Ed.

I was looking to do something quick at home until I got further into it. I have a Simon Peter sporting goods right around the corner from me, I think I will take that advice and have them do it.

Thanks guys.
