Cliffwood Beach. 5/3
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:09:31 PM »
went out this morning and fished the last of the outgoing tide.  started out with clams and i wasn't getting anywhere with that, so i switched over and started throwing some metals and bucktails.  skunked on that, too.  some guys next to me caught a few bluefish on what looked like bunker.  other than that, the beach was pretty packed when i got there, but by the time i left, there was only me and two others.  not the nicest  Saturday that may could've offered us, that's for sure.

ash continues his 0-for-ever streak...  TT^

Hi Ash, I feel your pain my friend.  I was out yesterday and guys were catching all around me and the guy next to me but it seemed like we were in a time warp or something.

We were throwing the same bucktails the same distance, the same type of retrieve but they were 20 yards closer to the mouth of the inlet go figure???  5hrug

You will do alright the water is still in its up and down temp pattern.  If you can link up with an incoming tide right at slack tide you should have a fighting chance.  It seems this year the bite is triggered a little different.

Keep at it and you will do alright.  You have the equipment, the skill in casting and the know how to get the job done, all you need is for the fish to do is be at the place at your right time.

Happy Catching

Paul

WB had it right.  You were just in the right place at the wrong time.  Seameister was over there Thursday and caught a bunch of blues up to 10 lbs!  He tried to post a report but had some problems putting up his pic.

Unfortunately bluefish are not a fish that are easy to pattern from the sand.  Too unpredictable.  Stripers are actually easier to pattern than blues when they're around.  All bluefish do is chase bait.  Here one minute, gone the next.  While bluefish may be easier to catch, they are definitely not reliable. nosmly

Stick with it though.  As long as you're out there you got a shot!   Good Luck! ;D

t^ All above is correct. If you are looking to catch over there, set up a 3 way swivel on your main line & 3 - 5 0z of lead and wire leader to a 5/0 - 7/0 hook. Pick up a few fresh bunker, chunk them. Bait your hook and heave out into to the bay. Try and fish the PM incoming and you should be in Bluefish heaven.  Do it soon the big gators will be heading back out into the ocean in the next few weeks. ;D

This is true.  Thje time to be out there is this week.  Mothers day is usually the kick off to big blues.  I will be trying to land some big stuff on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I am hoping for both days.  Weather permitting.

Happy Catching
