Point Pleasant Canal 5/07
« on: May 07, 2008, 03:50:49 PM »
Went to the south end of the cnal this morning, looking for a striper. calm, no wind, and the fish were rolling on the surface. Hooked one, but lost him almost all the way to the net, about 24 inches. Boats then caused the fish to go down. Saw one short caught across the canal on a live herring. Half hour later, me and the guy right next to me caught blues, and they spit up sand eels, so I suspected fish were coming in from the ocean. No more action here, so I went to the north end, got there about 8:15.

One of my firends was leaving, and said I should have been there 6AM, it was a carnage, but it's over now.

As I was walking down to my spot, I watched a lady trolling through the canal catch one.

First cast and the blue bit my shad tail off, and I'm going broke on shad, LMAO. I noticed the small rainfish again, so I put on a little Ava007, no tail. By 8:30, I was catching one blue after another, they were killing the little diamond jig. I quit at 1:45, as it was slowing down, and the water started ripping. I caught around 50 blues, and man, my arms are tired, between the casting and pulling them in.

However, being a glutton for punishment, the odds are very high that I will go back this afternoon once the water slows down.

Those little AVA's are a kicker.  I was catching flounder off the beach with them when every one else was just standing around watching me.  Most guys don't have those in that size they range from 17's on up.

I will have to pick up a fwe more and take the tubes off.

Good going Garry... chrz
