Had Mike B and his brother in law Matt aboard for a bass/bluefish jig trip... A semi-snotty ocean, and yoo-hoo colored water out front from yesterday's blow made me tell the guys to bring the spinning rods and the little stuff, so we changed plans and fished the river/canal/bay with rubber and small jigs.
The morning produced a slow pick of 3-5# bluefish between Osborne Island and the 70 bridge, but nothing thereafter. We then concentrated our efforts on slack water in the canal and fishing around some structure for bass and hopefully a few more bluefish, but we came away fishless in that aspect.
Still was a good morning, the guys landed about a dozen feisty bluefish in the 3-5# range on 6# tackle, can't beat that!
(We will not be sailing tomorrow, Mother's day.)
