Memorial Day Weekend BACK TO BACK GRAND SLAMS
24May08
Angela Rose Charters saw Bernie for the 5th time this year as he took the honors of opening day of fluke season. We headed out bright and early and came across a waveless ocean. The water was glass with minimal winds coming out of the Northwest. We motored out 5 miles to the North east and drifted on some structure. The squid and spearing combo boated us a mess of seabass and ling with a couple of bluefish and a beautiful pollock. Even though the fluke did not cooperate today, hooking up with 4 species still made for an awesome day. Capt. Anthony took notice to the cooler water as his temp gauge read 55 on the surface and the reef's water clarity was pretty clean.

Angela Rose Charters hosted Glenn and Steve for thier second trip of the year. We threw the lines off at the same time as yesterday's trip and saw the same beautiful glassed over ocean as we broke the mouth of the inlet. With yesterday's catch being as good as it was, we motored back out to the same area on the reef and set up some longer drifts. We had fish in the boat almost immediatly. Sea Bass were popping over the rail all over the back of the boat. Today's catch saw more undersized fish but a decent amount found the ice box. Steve hooked up with Angela Rose's first keeper fluke of the year at 18 inches. It was out only fluke of the day. The guys managed to put a decent catch of fluke, sea bass, ling and bluefish in the box to score a grand slam. The bluefish were hitting top water poppers. Ever see a 3 or 4 - 10 pound bluefish crash the top of the water and annihilate a popper? It's disgustingly awesome
