Fish On 42 Sandy Hook Report 6/1
« on: June 01, 2008, 06:50:28 PM »
Ok, arrived at sandy hook point with my cousin at around 6 am this morning. Saw no sign of birds or any bluefish anywhere. Messed around with spoons and poppers for an hour or so, nada. Switched over to my fluke rig, used my favorite Gulp Bait (the green mullet). Had about 10-15 short fluke the entire day, plus 20-30 sea robins. Cant tell you how many times i hooked up with a horseshoe crab, or a big pile of mussels. Sometimes there would be 2 or even 3 horseshoe crabs on the end of my line. Unbelievable, there seemed to be like a line of them going from left to right about 20 yards out all day long. My cousin caught 1 fluke at 18" and a bunch of shorts. Saw 1 bluefish caught on a fluke rig with squid. Not one time did I see birds, baitfish, or any sign of bluefish on the entire edge of the point. Got burned to a crisp, cant feel my neck/back, and my nose is blistering. The walk was miserable, it was HOT out, but better luck next time!!! Still had a great time, cant complain, if i dont catch anything i still have a great time. Fishing is fishing what can i say  TT^... just would like to get on a boat next time if someone has a spot or two open during the week or weekend. I'm down  t^

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

From what I hear it was slow up North, I have not seen any report from Sea Bright South.

At least you were out there.  I was home getting the house ready for graduation parties in a couple of weeks.  :-X

Can't wait till they are all done with.
