6/10 Late Report
« on: June 11, 2008, 01:17:49 PM »
Sorry for the late post, got home late yesterday, tired and hot, storm came and took out electricity and had to be at work early today.
Left AH yesterday at 7 with one daughter on board. Last of the outgoing so headed to the hook to try a few drifts.  Bay was hot and brown from algae, yuk everywhere.  No hits so moved around but could not find fish in channel, edges etc.

Moved over to Ambrose where there was a breeze and nice drift.  Tried for the one that got away last week with squid/smelt combo, nothing then the St.Croix rod bends over again and I set hook. Hand rod to my daughter to let her reel it in and I can use the net.  It is a big fish and pulling hard.  She is having trouble with bait caster, used to spinning rod.  Lift up, reel down and fish takes back line.  After 10 minutes we are halfway up and snap goes the 20lb leader and the fish is gone again. Nothing more after that.

Decided to move to the Reach and on the way past West Bank saw some birds working.  Put out two live bunker snagged in AH harbor.  Blues proceded to chew them up and no bass swallowed the heads.

Moved on to the Reach and the weather back there was terrible, hot, no breeze and not drift plus ugly brown water.  After power drifting for an hour with no results decided to move to the Bug light. Found a patch of fish by the beach to the left of light.  Started out in 5 feet of water to reel in several sub 18" fish plus enormous Robins.  It was fun for two hours but no keepers. Decided at 3 it was time to come in.

Cleaning the boat was fun as the thermometer read 106 in parking lot!  A ton of brown spots all over everything.  Every time you reeled in your reel would be spraying brown water from the line all over you and the area around you.  The wash down hose got a lot of work.

Hope to head out again tomorrow.  Anyone fishing the JCAA tourn. this Saturday?
Bob

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
