SJ Shark Tourney Day 1 ... 6-13-08
awesome to be down here in Cape May again for the South Jersey Marina Shark Tourney,,,,,
fished the OOL4 Yellowfin amongst a huge collection of fishing machines.... Same crew Jr, Chris B., and Joel aka Poppi.... the new guy this year was Mr Kevin Kennedy.... with kevin being new he took over my chumming job which was good news for me.....
Anyway took the ride out to about 50 miles in flat calm seas... picked our spot and waited for the lines in time of 0930...
had a run off within 5 minutes but nothing to show for it...... much later in the day we did finally boat a mako in the 125-150 class at 62" and headed for the docks.... No qualifying Makos were weighed today (200 lbs or better) which means tomorrows money for the right mako is gonna be huge,,,,, cant wait and neither can the crew,,,,,
Well day 2 can be summed up as SUCK.......
on day 2 we ran the rocket 58 miles out to the south set up our slick on a deep wreck.... drifted along for 3+ hrs without a sniff from a shark of any kind nor from bluefish..... water was way to warm at 72-74 degrees no matter where we went... it was also clean and clear but on the greenish side... at the half way point a vote was taken and jr moved us back inshore to 35 out on a hump.. found plenty of life , porpoises, bluefish, bait down low.... but again no sharks..... had one run-off late that could of been but never seen the fish......
turns out NO qualifying Mako's of 200 or better came to the scales so the Mako callcutta money was refunded.....
Thanx again to Jr and the others as the trip was fun ...... May be back out on saturday for mako mania in Pt PL.
