CATCHING SHARKS
« on: June 18, 2008, 12:20:56 AM »
Last year I caught a brown shark on the beach, wasnt super big but was alot of fun. We took a bunch of pics and got him back in the water. I'm looking for the pics cant find them.
But.. my question is, I only caught that one. How and where are some good areas I can try to get into some sharks from the beach. My buddy said just outside of Little Egg inlet this weekend he saw a Thresher. I would love to do that from the beach. I know there are a bunch of Captins on here who run up and down the beaches, who see whats going on out there. Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreicated. I have the proper tackel, last year I hooked that one on a small blue fish.Where should I try and should I use, blues and bunker or something else.If I set up somewhere, random spot and chum the heck out of the area would that work. If anyone would like to go out and give it a shot or show me some things, I would supply the bait, chum, and means to get it out there. Is night time better than the day time? I would really love to hook up from the beach. Thanks.

I have a friend that loves to fish for sharks off IBSP.  He has become very successful and his techniques are big bait, big sticks, and big money.  I can usually find him in the area of A10 as there is a nice size hole there right at the sign.

He usually fishes at night for them.

Next time I see him or talk to him on the radio (amateur radio) nI will pick his brains a little more.

Happy Catching

His name is Lloyd, He has been fishing that beach for as long as I have.  He comes out of Mt. Holly on weekends, his parents I think use to live in the area.

i think catching sharks off the beach is just pure luck.  To target them you would need to cover an area with large bait, chum, etc.

Hi Nick,

I am sure that it is largely due to luck but this guy is known for his shark catching ability.  You go into Grumpys or Betty & Nicks and ask about Lloyd and they might not know him, but mention his name and sharks in the same sentence and they will know exactly who you are talking about.

I can chum thats not a problem, and theres no problem getting chum and big baits way out off the beach. I am going to start stocking up on bunker this weekend, got a new cast net. Big mesh real fast sinking. Do you think I would have to chum for hours. See from the beach though your slick will move away with the current, and you wont be able to stay on top of it like from a boat. There is deffinatly ways to set it up fairly right though I really want to accomplish this feat, so please any info would greatly help.

I haven't heard from Lloyd lately and we are leaving on vacation on Sunday If I hear from him I will peck his brains and post it here.

We will be out of the country for about 3 days from next Friday till Sunday but I will have access to a computer I will be in touch.

Hi Ash,

Yes, on the trip.  Were off to Disney World on Sunday and then the Disney Cruse on Thursday to Nassau and the Bahamas.  I am so looking forward to this trip.

Be back on the 29th.

As far as fishing goes it is always a pleasure to go fishing with you.  Just let me know when you guys get back from the Honeymoon.

My daughter will be staying local for the first 2 years and go to Ocean County College to get the basics out of the way, them she has 2 colleges in Philly in mind.

Happy Catching
