Any opinions on this lure?
« on: June 26, 2008, 03:16:33 AM »
I am going to hit the surf on Friday morning and I want to give this new lure a shot. I picked up two of them at the Sports Authority the other day since they were a green dot special and it was extremely inexpensive. I have one in Chartruece and one in blue. It is made by Panther Martin and is called the "Double Trouble" Vivif 9" Swimbait. It has two dorsels, two hooks, and two eyelets for swimming or jigging action. I was hoping someone out there on the site has used them or something similar and could give me tips on the best way to go! This link will give you a nice look at the lures.

Just choose the 9" vivif double trouble choice on the list to see it.

Let me know what you guys think!  5hrug
Thanks!

I think you looked at the first one on the page, the ones I got were on the list of choices to the left, two hooks, no spinner, 9 inches long! I hope it works!

Picked some of those up a flea market. Have caught blues on them.

i've caught fluke on a smaller version w/o the second hook

blues kept biting the tail end off, so the second hook should work nicely

Would like to get a striper on it, but blues are fun too. Any opinions on whether to use the jigging eyelet or the swimming eylet...also, should I put any gulp on the hook for smell or will it just ruin the action of the lure?

Looks like a good one. t^  I haven't tried that brand specifically, but they are similar to the Storms and Tsunamis.  I have caught a lot of stripers on the 4, 5 and 6" sizes of those baits.  My friend often uses the 7" Tsunami.

At almost 7 oz. it may be tough to cast from the beach unless you're using a big rod.  If blues are around you should throw something else.  They will chop them up quick!

I wouldn't add anything to this lure unless its really small.  As you said, it may ruin the action.  As far as the line tie, you should try both.  The one further back would probably be better for jigging from a boat as it would more likely keep it horizontal in the water.  The one in front would be more for casting.

Good luck with your new baits!  Hope you catch a cow on them! ;D

Thanks Buck...It's gonna have to be a cow I guess because the ones I bought are 9 inches! I am using a 10 ft and a 12 ft rod from the beach.
